HIP REPLACEMENT SURGERY FOR PAIN RELIEF AND EASY WALKING

In general, a doctor removes a hip joint and replaces it with metal or plastic under Hip Replacement surgery. This procedure is done only when all the other treatments fail to provide the pain relief. This replacement procedure will provide great relief from severe pain and make patients able to walk easily.

Traditional Hip Replacement technique is widely used

This surgery can be done in traditional way or in an invasive technique. The size of incision is the main difference in both. In standard procedures, a person will be given general anesthesia so that their muscles relax and the person will be in deep sleep. So the person will not experience any pain and will be aware of the surgery procedures. Spinal anesthesia may also be given as an alternative to prevent pain. The skin along the hip is cut and the muscles which are connected to the thighbone are moved.

Then the ball is removed by cutting the thighbone and an artificial joint is placed with cement or any other material which attached with the joint. The new ball will be inserted into socket of the hip and then the muscles are re-attached. The surgeon who is performing this surgery is really skilled and the person may need blood transfusion as he loosed blood during the process. Therapy will be given after the surgery and the person can walk with walker for few days and their physiotherapy will be continued for few months.

Must follow the instructions to avoid dislocation

The person should avoid twisting the leg who undergoes hip replacement for six to twelve months. Squatting should not be done. The physiotherapist will suggest few techniques and guide about the day to day activities. If a person does not follow the instructions, then the bone may be dislocated and needs one more surgery. It is suggested to avoid climbing stairs or to minimize the use of stairs. Sitting in a firm and straight chair is important and recliners must not be used. Like with any other surgery, hip replacement also involves risk. The person will not be able to move much and there may be problems with blood clotting. Blood thinners may be used; there may be problem with bleeding and infection. The legs may not be of same length after the surgery, one must not sit too low as it may cause dislocation.
